After we sold Florida, I knew that I would like to have a puppy with whom I can do Agility. This time I wanted a puppy who is brought up by me.
I reserved a Border Collie puppy again, in a working-line Border Collie kennel. But during this time an unexpected Kelpie litter was born: the litter of Rooney.
Rooney's parents are from working-lines, they are both very quick, crazy, very well built workaholic dogs and Rooney's father, Carroty is the perfect Kelpie for me.
From the previous mating, Rooney's mother did not have any puppies, so this time nobody did expect a big litter, but 8 wonderful puppies were born. I felt in love with one of the puppies, because of the newborn photos, I felt something in this puppy, I can't really say what, I just felt that He is the one. This puppy was Rooney.
I saw the puppies for the first time on the opening day of the 2010 Football World Cup, so my puppy was named after the fantastic football player, Wayne Rooney.
Little Rooney came home on the 2nd of July 2010.
About Rooney: Rooney is Simply the Best for me, he is extraordinary. He is actually not really dog like in his behavior, he has the nickname alien in our family, because during walks he always has something in his mouth or plays tug-o-war with his leash and does not notice the outside, and he always does something also at home, he does not have an off-switch, he is hyperactive.
Rooney is the dog whom I have been always dreaming of: he is incredibly ball-fanatic, he can play fetch until collapse, loves to play tug-o-war, fiery, dynamic, has rockets in his feet and he is completely crazy. He is ready to work at anytime, anywhere, nothing can disturb him, since he was a puppy he is a very-very concentrated dog. He is very intelligent and learns everything fast. He is a real Kelpie: workaholic, has a big desire to please and can work even under big pressure. He always needs to have a job, he is a bit hyperactive, he doesn't even goes to sleep, only if I tell him to go to his crate and sleep.
He is not dominant, but he is strong-minded and self-confident, he is not sensitive, he has zero aggressivity, he is indifferent with noises and he is nothing afraid of, with dogs he is indifferent and submissive and he loves people. He never goes into a fight with other dogs.
He is very talented and promising in agility: he is very fast, he can turn in the tightest way, and even with his amazing speed he is still capable to go on the shortest lines possible. He has a perfect jumping technique and incredibly good motion on the agility course. It is very challenging to handle him, because he needs a very precise handling, he usually does not correct my mistakes, so if I make a mistake, he will either go into the wrong way or simply will not jump that jump, just runs under it. It is a fantastic experience to work with him and he surely gives me the motivation to always improve myself and he makes me want to do everything perfectly.
His main sport is agility, but we do occasionally frisbee too, because he goes crazy for it. He knows a tons of tricks and we also practice obedience and canicross.
