I have always liked Croatian Sheepdogs since I first saw one on an agility competition in 2007.
But to confess the truth I thought that although they are great working dogs they are not my type because of their barking.
I fell totally in love with the breed and started to really want one in the October of 2011 when Nina Gregl came to a Hungarian competition and brought also Tanja's Kal Con Maige "Rudi" with her. We spoke about that I plan to have a new dog next to Rooney and I was thinking in Malinois and perhaps in Border Collies. And Nina wanted to convince me that Croatian Sheepdogs would be also a good choice for me so she gave me after the competition Rudi to play with him and to do a few obstacles with him.
And I was lost, I was totally in love with Rudi! Words could not really describe how fantastic it was to work with Rudi. Of-course after that experience I started to want a Rudi puppy, so I told Nina if she gets knowledge of a litter where Rudi is the father don't hesitate to tell me. She told me about Kisha's (Kisha is the fantastic litter sister of Rudi and Kaj) litter that will come in the end of 2011, but I told her that unfortunately that's to early for me to get a puppy.
On 24th of December Nina wrote me about Kisha's puppies which where born on the 4th of november and were already 6 weeks old, she wrote that this is a really exeptional litter, and there is one male still available and this is a very rare chance to get a fantastic Croatian Sheepdog puppy. I watched all of the pictures and videos about the pups and felt completely lost. So I wrote to the breeder, Alen.
On the 3rd of January I was on my way to pick my puppy up. :)
So about Ripper: In one short sentence: He is The One. He simply really is, he is my soul-mate, my perfect boy. He is always watching me, following me everywhere, mostly looking into my eyes trying to read, to guess what I want. He is amazing, and we are in a great harmony together, both in life and on the agility course. :)
It is so funny that he can still be a puppy, being in my lap for a cuddle and in the next moment he becomes a barking monster when we work. He does everything with his full heart, enthusiasm, drive and of-course with his voice (yes, he is barking constantly if we are working :D), always, no matter what we do: agility, frisbee, tricks or just simply playing. He is crazy about both toys and food although he prefers toys a bit. He loves to play fetch and he also loves to play tug-o-war, he has a really strong grip.
He is quite dominant and self-confident, but never aggressive. He is friendly with both dogs and people, but he usually does not notice them. I'm fully the center of his world and he expects the same from me, he wants to be the center of my attention all the time.
On the agility course, he is very fast, turns extremely tight and although he is barking he is still clear headed. Even with the speed he is going he still listens very well, and reads my signs greatly and he corrects my handling from the very beginning of our agility work together. I find it really amazing to work with him and I fully trust him.
According to Polona, Kisha's owner, Ripper is the most Kisha like from the whole litter, I find this completely true, he inherited his mother's temperament, drive and enthusiasm for surely. I can't wait to start to compete with him, until then I simply enjoy the ride with him ;-)
